Less is More

For months and months on end my brother Adem had decided to make a music/lyric video for ‘Are You Ready’ back in 2020. We had pages and pages of concept ideas, notes, and sketches of different scenes we had in mind. However, with all our efforts nothing seemed to work. The enormity and complexity of the project seemed out of reach and unrealistic to say the least. The well known phrase ‘less is more’ is what comes to mind; it couldn't be more true in this case.

All along the video didn't have to be complicated - it just had to be simple; simple enough to allow the song to do the talking and to support the deeper meaning of the song.

As Jesus used parables to explain His sermons in a way people could understand, it was our intention to do the same with the visuals of this video. The visual imagery is very metaphorical and symbolic to the message.

Jesus, The Son of God represented as the sun in the video, came to the world as light, so that whoever believes in Him may not remain in darkness (John 12:46). He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”’ (John 8:12).

Death in Adam, Life in Christ

Isaiah 59:2 says 'But your iniquities have built barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear.' The large pillars/barriers in the video represent our separation from God due to our sinful condition/our fallen nature. Right from the very beginning where Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, sin was bought upon humanity and bought about a separation between God and man: 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God' (Romans 3:23) and ‘the wages of sin is death’'.

However, Romans 6:23 says that ‘the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord’, ‘for God made Christ who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ’ (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus became the ultimate offering for our sin, ‘Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned…For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ’ (Romans 5:12-17).

A Special Thanks

A massive thanks to my brother Adem for wholeheartedly working to create the CG/3D art and visuals of the video. It’s been a real dream and blessing to work with you in this way - onto the next!

Be blessed x
